Celebrity chefs and authors Jose Andres and Eric Ripert are calling on chefs the world over to make June 25th International Anthony Bourdain day.
Ripert, who is the chef and the owner of Le Bernardin in New York, used his Twitter account to tweet a video of himself and fellow culinary icon Andres. Both Ripert and Andres were close friends of Bourdain and both were deeply impacted by Bourdain’s suicide last year. This is especially true in the case of Ripert whose misfortune it was to discover Bourdain’s body in his hotel room.
Ripert: ”On June 25th, we all are going to celebrate the birthday of our dear friend and beloved Anthony Bourdain.”
The world after Bourdain
Anthony Bourdain took his own life on June 9 2018, while filming an episode of Parts Unknown in Strasbourg, France, leaving colleagues, ex-colleagues, and fans the world over confused and devastated.
Bourdain’s reputation as a chef was cemented at New York’s Brasserie Les Halles while it was his kitchen memoir “Kitchen Confidential” which first brought him international acclaim as an author while catapulting him into a highly successful career as a broadcaster.
His other books, including; A Cook’s Tour and The Nasty Bits were international bestsellers and his shows; the Nasty Bits, No Reservations, The Layover and Parts Unknown between 2002 and 2018 were massive hits.
